The 20th annual “spring concert” by the Metrotones, originally planned for June 13th at the Wesleyan Centre, has been officially cancelled due to the current COVID-19 situation.

The cancelling of the concert precludes the chorus from assisting local charities with food and funds in the normal fashion. However, given the increasing demand on food banks the Metrotones want to reach out to their supporters to assist the Food Depot Alimentaire nonetheless.

“Our chorus group was obviously disappointed at having to cancel our June concert, but we still wanted to be able to give back to the community through our loyal followers” said chorus director Peter Butler.

From now until June 13th, the scheduled date of the cancelled concert, the Metrotones are asking the community to make a donation of at least the price of a concert ticket ($10) and/or make a food donation in the bins located at all three Sobeys locations in Moncton (Vaughn Harvey, Elmwood Drive, Mountain Rd).

Monetary donations can be made a variety of ways:

  • Dropping off at the FDA warehouse or Peter McKee Centre;
  • Dropping off at 7 Borden St in Riverview or 80 Pleasant Rd-Unit 116 in Moncton;
  • Direct mail to FDA;
  • On-line at FDA website – look for the Metrotones button;
  • Via an email bank transfer to Moncton.metrotones@gmail.com with password “Paul Newman” – Directly to any members of the Metrotones chorus.

“This is an extraordinary initiative by the Metrotones but comes as no surprise given their focus on local charities” says FDA president Dale Hicks. “They are a special group in our community”.
