Community Food Drive - Saturday, May 13th 2017

The Food Depot Alimentaire (FDA) food supply is starting to dwindle down, so the community support group of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on Salisbury Road are coming forward to help us in re-stocking the shelves. Members of the church will be conducting a neighborhood food drive on Saturday, May 13th from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm in the area bordered by Wheeler Blvd, Mountain Road and Killam Drive which covers the Pinehurst – Birchmount area of the City.

“Historically, our food donations for the spring period have been down, so this food drive comes at a key time for us” says FDA executive director Chantal Senecal. “This is the first time our organization has partnered with another group to conduct a neighborhood drive of this magnitude so we are anxious to see how it turns out”.

Martin Kuhle of the church community support group says the members have done this in the past to support other area food banks;  so, they are looking forward to assisting FDA now that food bank services for Moncton are provided under one roof at the Peter McKee Community Food Centre. “Ideally, we would like to hold four such food drives each year, two in the spring and two in the fall, in four different sections of the city. We trust the generosity of the area residents will make it a huge success”.

Traditionally, FDA has not held door-to-door campaigns especially when several food banks were located across the city. Now with everything under one roof at the Peter McKee Centre, board president, Dale Hicks, says it is an opportune time to partner with an organization in this regard. “This group has done this sort of thing in the past and we are delighted they came forward to offer their assistance to us” says Hicks. “The group going door-to-door will be properly identified as volunteering on behalf of FDA so residents can be assured the requests for donations are legitimate”
